By creating an account on Sonic 2 Online you agree to the following.
Unofficial fan project
Sonic 2 Online is an unofficial, non-commercial fan project. It is not made, endorsed, sponsored or approved by SEGA, or by any of the projects it builds on. Sonic the Hedgehog and all related names and characters are the property of SEGA.
Your own game data
We do not distribute the game or any of its copyrighted material. You must supply your own copy of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and you are responsible for having the right to use it. Your ROM stays in your browser and is never uploaded.
Your account
- Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
- Usernames and character names must follow the Code of Conduct.
- You need an email address to make an account, and each address can have one account.
- We can rename, mute, suspend or delete accounts and characters that break these terms or the Code of Conduct, and ban the people behind them, including from the email address and network they used.
Beta software, no guarantees
This is a beta of a hobby project run by a small team. It is provided "as is", without any warranty. It may have bugs, go offline, or lose accounts and characters, and features may change or be removed at any time.
Your data
We store your username, a salted hash of your password, your login sessions and your characters.
We never store your email address or your IP address. We keep only a keyed hash of each: a code that can't be turned back into the address, used to keep to one account per email address and to stop banned players coming back. Moderators see a short label of it, never the address.
To keep the game safe, moderators can review:
- chat messages, which are kept for 30 days;
- which IP address hashes your account used, kept for 180 days after it last used each one;
- reports made by or about you, with the chat from around the time of the report, and the moderation actions taken on your account. These are kept for as long as the game runs.
We use this data only to run and moderate the game, and never share or sell it.
Changes
We may update these terms. If you keep playing after a change, you accept the new terms.
